Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricket player, believes that India will select Washington Sundar above Kuldeep Yadav in order to add batting depth in Perth for the series’ opening ODI against Australia. On Sunday, October 19, the eight-match white-ball series is set to begin.
In contrast to the other locations where the Men in Blue would play the 50-over leg, Chopra believed Washington Sundar would be a greater asset to the squad in Perth’s brisk and bouncy conditions, where there is a greater likelihood of a batting collapse.
“I wonder who ought to start at number eight. There are two choices. I can either go with Washington Sundar or play Kuldeep Yadav and keep four bowlers from No. 8 to No. 11. We’re performing in Perth. Batting is a little more challenging there, as there is more bounce and pace. At the beginning, you may lose two or three wickets in short succession. “You will need batting depth if that occurs,” Chopra said in a video posted to his YouTube account.
Chopra emphasized the need for six bowlers in Perth while restating Kuldeep’s exclusion from the starting lineup. He did note, though, that the lineups for the second and third ODIs can be different.
Do you think spin has a significant influence in Perth? Not in my opinion. You definitely need six bowlers. For Perth only, I say this. Adelaide and Sydney will be discussed separately. I don’t see Kuldeep playing easily, even though I know it’s unfair,” he continued.
Washington Sundar, in my opinion, will be in for the match in Perth.
Axar Patel’s performance at number seven will be critical for both him and Ravindra Jadeja’s future aspirations, Chopra added. For those who don’t know, Jadeja has stated that she would like to play in the 2027 World Cup.
“Axar Patel, number seven. The fact that Ravindra Jadeja might have been present makes that a significant number. He was also a member of the Champions Trophy squad, although he is no longer with them. He has been told that they haven’t made any decisions yet and that the 2027 World Cup ambition is still alive. His playing, though, is dependent on Axar’s performance because, if Axar performs very well, you might not turn back to Ravindra Jadeja,” Chopra said.
The first ODI will be played by India on Sunday, October 19. On Thursday, October 23, and Saturday, October 25, the second and third games will take place.
