In his first-ever call-up to India’s red-ball team for the five-match Test series against England, Sai Sudharsan described how his teammate Washington Sundar‘s on-field exploits had inspired him more.
When the series starts on Friday, June 20, Sudharsan might bat at No. 3 for the Asian powerhouses. As spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are also in the running, Sundar will have to fight for a berth in the starting lineup.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a video in which Washington Sundar and Sudharsan discuss their connection over the years.
Despite the fact that they are less than two years apart in age, the star batter claimed that Sundar has been his “inspiration.”
The batter laughed as Sundar responded by bestowing his blessings upon him. Following Sundar’s interview, Sudharsan can also be seen making fun of his Tamil accent. Could you identify that accent for me? “What?” asks Sudharsan. Sundar was evidently embarrassed by it, and the all-round spin bowler responded, “Stop it, let’s go.”
“My motivation has come from Sundar. It’s always unique because I’ve played a couple games against him. He was really eager to get up and play for the country, and I had rehearsed with him a couple of times. That’s what I had in mind. He was a pleasure to see. He performed effectively in the IPL for a few years before playing for his nation. As a result, it greatly inspired me. I’m from Chennai, and I’ve known him since I was a little child. Playing with him has inspired me and made me want to follow in his footsteps. In the bcci.tv video, he stated, “So he’s been my inspiration.”
Since they both play for the Gujarat Titans, an Indian Premier League (IPL) team, where the opener won the Orange Cap for the first time this season and finished ahead of many more seasoned players like Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, and Virat Kohli, Sundar has watched Sudharsan grow as a cricket player up close.
He has frequently informed me about that, and many of my friends and instructors have also frequently discussed how his cricket career has developed. He has always improved, particularly in the previous three to four years, and he has only gotten better each year. In that case, I believe that every time I’ve watched him on TV, I’ve learnt a lot from him. His skill sets and work ethic have undoubtedly inspired many children, particularly in Chennai, and I have no doubt that he will continue to inspire countless others worldwide. “Very pleased for him,” Sundar remarked.
To date, the 23-year-old Sudharsan has represented India in three ODIs and one T20I. Sundar, 25, has played for the Men in Blue in nine Test matches, twenty-three ODIs, and fifty-four T20Is. In the forthcoming five-match series, the Tamil Nadu pair is anticipated to be quite important.
