I hold the mark for most dismissals by a bowler in Test cricket; continue selecting Warner so he can surpass me. Michael Atherton

I hold the mark for most dismissals by a bowler in Test cricket; continue selecting Warner so he can surpass me. Michael Atherton

After Stuart Broad bowled Australia’s David Warner a record 15 times during the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham, former England cricketer Michael Atherton made a witty remark. Notably, the Australian southpaw was dismissed for a meagre nine runs after getting a thick inside edge that caused the ball to fall into the stumps.

In the history of Test cricket, Warner ranks tied for fifth with 15 dismissals by the same bowler. Since Australia’s Glenn McGrath dismissed Atherton a record 19 times during his time with England, he continues to hold the record for the most dismissals by a single bowler.

In light of this, the former English cricketer took a playful jab at Warner, urging Australia’s think centre to continue playing him until the southpaw breaks his mediocre record.

“I had a private conversation with Ricky Ponting about the tactical adjustments David Warner has made. He had easier access to the ball by remaining slightly to the ball’s side. It was the fifteenth time he has lost his wicket to  Stuar Broad,” Michael Atherton said on Sky Sports. “He appeared to be in excellent form until that big delay, and it was the fifteenth time he was dismissed by Stuart Broad.”

I’m eager for Australia to continue selecting Warner: Michael Atherton

“I’m anxious for Australia to continue to select Warner. The bowler who has dismissed me the most times in Test cricket is Glenn McGrath (19 times). Therefore, continue selecting Warner so that by the conclusion of the series, Warner will have gained ground.

The Australians scored 386 runs thanks to Usman Khawaja’s 321-ball 141 and valuable contributions from Travis Head (50 off 63 deliveries) and Alex Carey (66 off 99 balls) during the match. At the end of Day 3, England had scored only 28 runs and lost two wickets before rain interrupted play and prompted the umpires to call stumps early.
