In November, four days after the 2023 World Cup Final, Matthew Wade’s 15-man Australia team will travel to India for a five-match Twenty20 International series. In order to get ready for the next Test summer, the all-rounders Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green, as well as the speed trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, who are now with the World Cup team, have been rested. Ashton Agar was not selected because he is still healing from a calf injury. In the meantime, David Warner and Steve Smith, who were absent from the South Africa tour, have rejoined the T20 team.
Squad: Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Tanveer Sangha, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Sean Abbott, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, and Matthew Wade
“It’s an experienced squad with a mixture of players who have had their first opportunity on the international stage and that we hope will continue to develop into important players in our T20 group,” said George Bailey, chair of the selection panel, in remarks about the chosen team.
“We are excited for Matthew to take the helm for this series as he is a leader in the group and has captained the squad before. Similar to Mitch Marsh in the South Africa series, this is a fantastic chance to expand on our breadth and depth of knowledge in foreign leadership.
“Playing India on their own ground is always a huge task. Tanveer Sangha, who is presently a traveling reserve, and eight members of the current ODI World Cup squad are among the group who have the most experience playing in India.”
