Reports: Waqar Younis is expected to step down from his role as PCB chairman's advisor a few weeks after being appointed

The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has chosen Waqar Younis as his advisor on cricket matters. But the great pacer is probably going to give up the position shortly.

Younis assumed the role subsequent to his fellow countryman Wasim Akram turning down the opportunity on account of personal and work-related obligations. Waqar Younis was a part of the coaching staff throughout his time with the Pakistan cricket team.

After multiple allegations surfaced about Naqvi’s incapacity to manage cricketing matters, the notion of hiring an advisor emerged. Due to his dual role as Pakistan’s interior minister, he was also held accountable for failing to fulfil his responsibilities as PCB chairman.

Cricket Pakistan reported that Younis is not happy with the degree of collaboration displayed by a few chosen officials in the international cricket department. It has been several days since the right-arm pacer last reported to work.

In an effort to find a fresh candidate to succeed Younis, the PCB has already posted a job opening.

Candidates who applied will now be interviewed for the position of advisor on cricket affairs, which the board recently advertised. Sportskeeda cited the source as adding, “Waqar has not responded to the advertisement.”

An other source stated, “Waqar was uncomfortable in his consulting role, and some powerful people in the board, linked to the Pakistan team affairs and international cricket matters, were also not very cooperative with him.”

Younis, upon his appointment, expounded on the significance of having a greater number of former players within and around the Pakistan cricket circuit in order to promote the growth of both the sport and the players within the nation.

It’s evident from the status of cricket today that reforms are required. Stadiums hold significance, but improving the calibre of play ought to be our primary goal.

It is important to involve legends and famous cricketers in the process. We talked about the Chairman’s great idea to include these figures with some legends. We’ll be revealing the identities of those who will contribute to the sport’s progress soon. He had stated, “I hope this idea takes off and I wholeheartedly endorse it. Younis, 52, is the latest member of the lengthy list of previous players who have said goodbye to their individual positions within the present team.
