A security manager at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium was arrested for taking 261 IPL jerseys valued INR 6.52 lakh from the BCCI’s official goods store. Farooque Aslam Khan, 43, of Mira Road was detained lately and is out on bail, according to police.
Khan allegedly stole a large box cricket jerseys from the BCCI’s Wankhede storeroom on June 13, 2025. Each IPL 2025 jersey cost roughly INR 2,500. The offence went unreported until a July inventory check found stock anomalies. BCCI officials saw Khan leave with the box on CCTV, sparking suspicion and prompting a July 17 Marine Drive Police Station complaint.
Khan sold the stolen jerseys online to a Haryana dealer, authorities say. Investigations showed that he contacted the dealer on social media and said the items were being liquidated as stock clearing due to BCCI renovations.
The accused is charged under applicable Indian Penal Code sections.
Khan had 50 of 261 stolen jerseys recovered by police. Khan admitted to funding his internet gambling addiction with sales earnings after questioning. He received the money in his bank account.
The Haryana dealer who bought the jerseys claimed authorities he was unaware they were stolen. He was summoned for more questions. The police are currently investigating if the stolen products were for IPL players or BCCI’s official merchandise retail channels.
