Wanindu Hasaranga demands an improvement in fielding as Sri Lanka gets ready for the T20 World Cup.

As Sri Lanka gets ready for the T20 World Cup, newly chosen captain Wanindu Hasaranga anticipates that his colleagues will improve as fielders. The spinner recently returned to professional cricket and claimed seven wickets in the third ODI against Zimbabwe, having missed the ODI World Cup 2023 due to a hamstring injury.

The 26-year-old has concerns about Sri Lanka’s recent fielding performance, despite several positives. They are currently ranked second-last in the points table after missing 16 catches during the ODI World Cup in India.

Wanindu Hasaranga said that, in light of this, fielding is non-negotiable going forward because he recognizes its significance.

“I have stated to the team from the beginning that fielding will be crucial. You will find it difficult to progress, no matter how good you are at batting or bowling, if you are not a good fielder. Fielding is non-negotiable. We have another five months until the World Cup… According to Wanindu Hasaranga, fielding is the simplest way to improve at the game and can make the difference between winning and losing in Twenty20 cricket, as The Times of India reported.

Seeking desperately to make things better: Sikandar Raza

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to commence on June 1st, and Zimbabwe is the only ICC full member country not to be present. Zimbabwe was eliminated from the qualifications as Uganda shocked them with an incredible win. Sikandar Raza, an experienced all-round player, said that despite their valiant efforts to improve things, the entire nation is in ruins.

Not just for me and the players, but for the entire country as well, it’s just devastating. We’re making a valiant effort to make things better. To change things, I believe you needed that desperation. Nevertheless, we have gained a lot of knowledge and intend to restore greatness to Zimbabwe cricket, Raza stated.
