Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Varun Chakravarthy are the three players that former opener Virender Sehwag believes might be India’s biggest match-winners in the Asia Cup 2025. Suryakumar Yadav will captain a 15-man team as Team India kicks off their campaign against the United Arab Emirates on September 10.
India’s Asia Cup team is made up of both youthful and seasoned athletes. Shubman Gill is Suryakumar’s deputy after he was given the captaincy. Other players on the team include Rinku Singh, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya. As they defend their continental title, the Men in Blue, who are grouped with the UAE, Pakistan, and Oman, are hoping for a great start. Sehwag did, however, name three individuals who, in his opinion, has the capacity to alter games on their own.
He performed admirably in the Champions Trophy: Virender Sehwag
Young opener Abhishek Sharma, who debuted in July 2024, was Sehwag’s first choice. The southpaw, who is currently ranked #1 in the ICC T20I batter rankings, is renowned for his fearless style and capacity to dominate from the first over.
“I believe Abhishek Sharma has the potential to change the game,” Virender Sehwag stated on Sony Sports.
The top pacer Jasprit Bumrah was the second name on the former’s list. In recent months, there has been much debate about the fitness of the right-arm fast, particularly when workload management restricted him to just three Test matches during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. A back problem also prevented him from winning the Champions Trophy. But when it comes to the ball, Bumrah is India’s most deadly weapon. He took 18 wickets at an economy rate of 6.67 in 12 games during the 2025 Indian Premier League.
Finally, he chose Varun Chakravarthy, whose mysterious spin might be the deciding factor. Chakravarthy has been in incredible form since his return, taking the most wickets against Bangladesh and then destroying England in a five-match T20I series earlier this year, earning Player of the Series honours. He has established himself as a consistent component of the T20I team after taking 33 wickets at an economy of slightly over seven in his last 18 T20I matches.
“Varun Chakravarthy was very successful in both the Champions Trophy and the T20 format thanks to his mysterious bowling. Therefore, he said, “These are some game-changers for India who can win matches on their own.”
