‘Nothing to answer to anyone’- Virender Sehwag makes some harsh comments, to which Shakib Al Hasan answers

Following Shakib Al Hasan’s lacklustre performances in Bangladesh’s opening two Twenty20 World Cup matches, former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag wasn’t holding back when criticising the player. According to Sehwag, the all-rounder wasn’t doing much for the team and ought to step down from the format so that others may step up and contribute significantly.

“An athlete never arrives to respond to other people. A player’s job as a batsman is to score runs, support the team, bowl well because sometimes gaining wickets also depends on luck, and as a fielder, his job is to save runs and make the catches that fall to him, Shakib told reporters.

“Nobody is expecting anything from you. In my opinion, it normally raises a lot of issues when a present player isn’t able to give the team the kind of contribution that is expected of him, but it’s not always a terrible thing, Shakib added.
