Virat will play for some time, as for Rohit, it is a call: Ravi Shastri

The senior Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have struggled thus far in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy. With just 31 runs at an average of 6.20 in three games, the India captain is currently in danger of losing his spot in Test cricket. While Kohli scored a century in Perth to start the series off in a spectacular fashion, the 36-year-old has since fallen short of expectations.

The team India is quite concerned about the star batter’s repeated being stuck outside off-stump, which has also worried the Delhi-born player in white-ball cricket. Meanwhile, Rohit lacked confidence, which showed in his leadership. Ravi Shastri, a former cricket player who also coached the Indian team during their 2021 tour of Australia, stated that while the team management and selectors will need to make a decision regarding Rohit, he anticipates Kohli playing for at least three or four years.

Virat Kohli will likely continue to play for a while.

Whatever he did to get out, forget it. He will probably continue to play for another three or four years. It’s a call in Rohit’s opinion. The footwork is different at the top of the order, you know. On Star Sports, Shastri stated, “It’s his call at the end of the series because he’s probably late at times.”

The visit will be crucial for the senior cricket players as selectors make a decision regarding their future, according to sources ahead of the series against Australia. In addition to Rohit and Virat’s poor form, Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket during the third Test match at Gabba.

If the side doesn’t make it to the World Test Championship final, it won’t be shocking if the selectors make a drastic move. However, how India performs in the current series will determine a lot. The talks are anticipated to be put on hold if the visitors defeat Australia in the series.
