After the Mumbai batsman guided the Men in Blue to their first Champions Trophy victory in twelve years on Sunday, March 9, former India cricketer Yograj Singh was pleased to hear Rohit Sharma affirm that he was not considering retirement. Rohit, who defeated New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium with a game-winning 76 off 83 balls, addressed questions regarding his future with the national squad during the press conference held after the game.
Before calling it quits, Yograj encouraged Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to continue playing at least till the 2027 ODI World Cup. According to the former Indian seamer, Rohit and Kohli cannot be made to hang their boots by anyone.
“Rohit Sharma’s announcement that he is not retiring is the best thing. Good job, my son. Neither Virat nor Rohit can be retired. They ought to consider retiring after winning the ODI World Cup in 2027. According to India Today, Yograj stated, “I had stated this prior to India’s victory.”
The fitness of Rohit Sharma was being questioned by some: Yograj Singh,
The father of Yuvraj Singh publicly defended Rohit after some fans on social media made fun of him for being physically fit. The Congress leader Shama Mohamed should first demonstrate their fitness before interrogating Rohit, Yograj remarked, scolding the detractors.
“Some individuals were questioning Rohit Sharma’s level of fitness. Congresswoman Shama Mohamed, I would want to enquire about her level of fitness. “Commenting on players is not their style,” Yograj said.
Despite his strong starts in the 2025 Champions Trophy, Rohit was unable to amass a significant amount of runs before the final. But the 37-year-old reserved his greatest shot for the most important moment, as India won the summit match by four wickets with one over remaining thanks to his half-century. Kohli, meanwhile, finished as the Asian giants’ second-highest run scorer with 218 runs from five innings at an average of 54.50.
