Following the 36-year-old Virat Kohli’s announcement that he would be retiring from Test cricket, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh recently revealed his daughter Hinaya’s talk with the star Indian batsman. On May 12, Kohli stunned the cricket community by hanging up his boots from the game’s longest format. Hinaya was in the same state when the news of his retirement was announced.
When Hinaya asked father Harbhajan to text Virat Kohli on her behalf, Kohli responded bluntly, saying that the time was perfect for him to hang up his boots and call it a day.
“I didn’t understand Virat Kohli’s decision to retire. “Papa, why did Virat Kohli retire?” my daughter asked me. I would like to message him. “My name is Hinaya,” she wrote to Virat Kohli. What made you decide to retire? That was how her heart felt. According to The Times of India, Harbhajan said, “Virat Kohli laughed and said, ‘Beta, now it’s time.’?”
After scoring 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85 in 210 innings, Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket. A little more than a month before India’s impending five-match Test series against England, he made the decision to leave Test cricket. Rohit Sharma and Kohli’s contributions would be missed by India. Five days before Kohli’s disclosure, the latter declared his retirement from red-ball cricket.
Karun Nair might replace Virat Kohli in the red-ball situation.
With the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind, Kohli will only concentrate on playing his best in the 50-over format now that he is leaving Test cricket. Following the Men in Blue’s victory in the T20 World Cup last year, in which he was named Player of the Match in the finals against South Africa, he had earlier declared his retirement from T20Is.
India’s Test series versus England is set to start on June 20. Watching how they handle English conditions without one of their greatest players in a format he loved the most will be fascinating. The selectors have also summoned up Karun Nair as a potential candidate to bat at Kohli’s place in the batting order.
