Watch: After failing to score at bat in the first Test, Virat Kohli worked out in the Chepauk nets

After a poor outing with the bat in India’s first Test against Bangladesh at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, star batter Virat Kohli headed to the practice nets while his teammates were piling on the runs.

After being dismissed for just six runs in the first innings when chasing a wide delivery, the right-hand hitter had a dismal performance. In the second innings, spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped him leg before wicket, costing him 17 runs. Interestingly, when Kohli chose not to challenge the on-field call, he discovered that he would have survived because the ball had brushed off his bat and struck his pad.

Virat Kohli’s Test record has fallen short of his expectations since 2021

While India’s lead grew to 500 runs thanks to brilliant hundreds from Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill, Kohli opted to go to the nets and rehearse. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was with him. The 35-year-old was observed honing his pace bowling style, especially with deliveries that fell outside of the off-stump.

Just 654 runs at an average of 29.72 have been recorded by him in 14 Tests. Cricket commentators have been discussing the player’s decline in form, particularly while facing spin.

With two more days of play left, Bangladesh, who were struggling at 158/4 at stumps on Day 3, need 357 runs to win. In the second innings, R Ashwin has been outstanding for the hosts with the ball, taking three significant wickets.
