After India defeated New Zealand in the 2025 Champions Trophy match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Virat Kohli made a touching gesture with Mohammed Shami’s mother’s foot. In the final, India defeated Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand by four wickets on Sunday, March 9, to win the eight-team competition. The Indian players and their families started celebrating on the pitch following the historic victory.
Virat Kohli met Mohammed Shami family during the post-match festivities and asked the seamer’s mother for blessings. He also posed with Shami’s family for a photo.
Throughout his career, the former captain of India has been criticism for his combative demeanour on multiple occasions. Nonetheless, his regard for Shami’s mother demonstrates his conservative values. As he took in the cheers of the supporters who had gathered to watch the summit match in Dubai, Kohli was seen grinning broadly.

Mohammed Shami won his first international ICC title.
In January 2013, Shami made his debut for his country. Although he never won a trophy, he gave India numerous noteworthy performances in ICC competitions. When he finally held the Champions Trophy for the first time on Sunday, that all changed.
Last year, India won the T20 World Cup, but Shami missed the match due to an injury. In five games of the 2025 Champions Trophy, the 34-year-old took nine wickets at an economy rate of 5.68 and an average of 25.88. He scored a five-for in the opening game of the season against Bangladesh, which was his finest showing. He took three wickets while bowling brilliantly against Australia in the semi-finals.
After chasing down a 252-run mark in 49 overs thanks to a scorching half-century from captain Rohit Sharma, India won the final by four wickets.
