Virat Kohli reveals conversation with Rohit Sharma before iconic photo with T20 World Cup trophy
Following India’s seven-run victory over South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final on June 29, Virat Kohli commented on the legendary picture with Rohit Sharma. According to Kohli, he requested that the Indian captain temporarily hold the World Cup trophy.

For a number of years, the two highly regarded right-handed hitters have been excellent contributors to Indian cricket, delivering reliable performances in all formats. Virat Kohli hadn’t even made his debut for India when Rohit won the first-ever T20 World Cup in 2007. Four years later, Rohit was left off of India’s team that won the ODI World Cup, which also included Kohli. Although they were part of the Indian team that won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013, they have yet to share in a World Cup celebration until recently in the Caribbean.

Following India’s thrilling victory, Virat Kohli and Rohit celebrated the momentous occasion by holding the T20 World Cup trophy and waving the Indian flag behind them. In an interview, former captain Kohli talked about the famous picture of the two Indian icons. He said that he had instructed skipper Rohit to carry the trophy for a long so that the younger players could enjoy the moment.

“Rohit Sharma found it to be an extremely memorable experience as well. His daughter Samaira was on his shoulder, and his family was present. However, I had the impression that he was trailing the entire victory lap. You carry the award for two minutes, too, I informed him. In a video released by Star Sports, Kohli said, “This journey has been very long. We should take a picture together.”

Following India’s victory in their second T20 World Cup, Rohit and Kohli declared their retirement from Twenty20 Internationals. As the two top scorers in T20I cricket, they became victorious. Rohit scored 4231 runs at an average of 32.05 and a strike rate of 140.89 in 159 games. At a strike rate of 137.04 and an average of 48.69, Kohli amassed 4188 runs in 125 Twenty20 Internationals.
