Virat Kohli will play his first home ODI since quitting the Tests.
In the meantime, Virat Kohli will be playing in India’s home colours for the first time since declaring his retirement from Test cricket. In the three-match ODI series against Australia, he most recently played a key role in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s first IPL title victory.
He plans to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup, therefore he is just focused on ODIs after retiring from Test and T20I cricket. He had a rough international comeback last month in Australia, starting with two ducks before recovering to score an undefeated 74. Debates concerning the 37-year-old’s long-term role were sparked by his ODI comeback to Australia, particularly following his dismissals in the opening two matches.
Notably, Virat Kohli former RCB teammate Shreevats Goswami recently said that instead of abandoning Test cricket, he ought to have kept playing it. According to Goswami, India’s faltering Test team is currently lacking the fervour and intensity that Kohli delivered. Kohli is focused on doing well in ODIs even if he retired 770 runs shy of the ideal milestone of 10,000 Test runs. He scored his 51st ODI century against Pakistan earlier this year in the Champions Trophy.
