Due to his game-winning effort in the semi-final, Virat Kohli is now ranked fourth in the ODI rankings

After hitting 84 runs in the semi-final match against Australia, India’s Virat Kohli has climbed to fourth place in the ICC ODI batters’ rankings. Virat Kohli had previously scored an undefeated 100 in a group-stage match against Pakistan. Another significant mover was Afghanistan’s opening batsman, Ibrahim Zadran, who shot up 13 spots to 10th place after his outstanding 177 against England.

Following an outstanding showing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai has risen to the top of the ODI all-rounders’ rankings, surpassing his teammate Mohammad Nabi. Omarzai’s individual performance was outstanding throughout, even if Afghanistan did not advance to the semi-finals.

He took seven wickets in three games, including the game-winning 5/58 against England. In terms of batting, Omarzai amassed 126 runs at a strike rate of 104.13 and an average of 42.00.

His flawless all-around performance propelled him up two slots in the rankings, giving him a four-point advantage over Nabi. In addition, Omarzai advanced 12 spots to 24th in the ODI batting rankings, making significant progress.

Shubman Gill continues to hold the top rank, followed by Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa and Babar Azam of Pakistan. Rohit Sharma dropped two spots to fifth place.

Matt Henry of New Zealand moved up three spots to third place in the bowling rankings, joining Keshav Maharaj and Maheesh Theekshana in the top three. Returning from injury, Mohammed Shami climbed three spots to 11th place.

With eight wickets apiece, Shami and Henry currently hold the top spot as the Champions Trophy’s leading wicket-takers ahead of the New Zealand-South Africa semi-final.

In the meantime, Virat Kohli gave a glimpse into his thoughts and passion for batting following his outstanding innings against Australia.

“Man, I really adore playing the game. I simply adore batting. All the other aspects sort of take care of themselves as long as the love and joy of batting are present. Avoid putting your head down in a difficult circumstance. And simply keep striving for the team’s goals. You’ll typically get outcomes like this,” Kohli informed BCCI.
