Virat Kohli has to stop his stupid antics: Ian Chappell

"Kohli's experience in the UK would be invaluable, and of the two problematic players he's the most likely to be resuscitated," added Chappell.

Virat Kohli has to stop his stupid antics: Ian Chappell

Virat Kohli, the lead batsman for India, had a rough time during the just finished five-match tour to Australia. In Australia, the great hitter was unable to duplicate his feats from earlier visits. After a decade, Australia regained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, defeating India 1-3 in the series.

Virat Kohli amassed nine innings of 190 runs at a pitiful average of 23.75 during the visit.

When deliveries were bowled outside the off-stump, he was found deficient. Alex Carey, the wicketkeeper, or the slip fielders caught the 36-year-old each time he played at deliveries he should have left alone.

Concerns have been raised by certain supporters over Kohli’s future in the longest format following his terrible batting performance. But according to Ian Chappell, the Delhi batsman still has a lot to give, particularly during the upcoming June England tour. However, the former Australian skipper advised Kohli to stop his “senseless antics” to Sam Konstas over his shoulder bump during the Melbourne Boxing Day Test.

In addition to being the more likely of the two troublesome players to be revived, Kohli’s experience in the UK would be extremely beneficial. He must, however, be more consistent in addition to giving younger players insightful guidance. Moreover, he must cease his absurd actions, such as shouldering Sam Konstas during the MCG Test. There would be a significant void in the lineup for a difficult tour if Kohli and Rohit were to decide to retire from Test cricket, Chappell said.

After Rohit Sharma’s awful batting performance in Australia, Chappell thinks he is in more serious peril. “The Indian Test and ODI captain has not been at his technical best in recent times,” the cricketer-turned-expert said.

The selection committee must make difficult choices over Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India’s two main question marks. Rohit, who will turn 38 in a few months, is a questionable player who will have to contend with England in a packed five-Test series. India is very hesitant to let go of their best players, but Rohit has been having technical difficulties lately, so his absence would raise questions about the starting position and captaincy, Chappell explained.

Ian Chappell, a respectable opening substitute for KL Rahul

Chappell also discussed his thoughts on the next Test skipper for India. India’s three-time Test captain, KL Rahul, might be an excellent choice, he suggested. Jasprit Bumrah replaced the Karnataka batsman as head coach of the Test team.

Although KL Rahul is a good opening option, having the captaincy causes more problems when Jasprit Bumrah isn’t available. “Bumrah proved in Australia that he is a good bowler and a good captain, but if India is to continue to be a powerhouse, he needs assistance in both areas,” Chappell said.
