Virat Kohli Fully Fit to Play 2027 ODI WC, Says Shastri

Virat Kohli‘s “hunger and desire” will decide whether or not he can sustain his batting form till the 2027 World Cup, according to former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri. As of right now, Kohli is only playing ODI cricket; he has already declared his retirement from T20I and Test cricket.

Shastri is confident that Virat Kohli physical fitness won’t be an issue. However, he said that in order to maintain his professional consistency, the star Indian batter will need to control his mentality and thought process.

“He will remain fit if he has that motivation because he is still quite fit, no doubt about it. The most important thing is shape. He will probably take it one series at a time and then assess his mental state. He won’t have any bodily issues, but it’s the mental aspect—the need and hunger. In an interview on Fox Sports, Shastri said, “I think he’ll continue if that’s still there and he’s enjoying it.”

He scored two ducks in the previous games, thus after the Sydney ODI against Australia ended and Virat Kohli ended his two-match duck skid, he delivered a candid evaluation of his performance.

It’s nice to get out of the pond, to be honest. I am somewhat disoriented. Even though you scored a lot of runs in international cricket, the game still shows you everything. I’m going to be 37 in a few days, and I still feel like I don’t know how to get a run. This game is incredible, I must say.

We love batting and batsmanship because of this,” Virat Kohli responded to Shastri on JioHostar following the third ODI.

In Sydney’s dead rubber, India prevailed by nine wickets with 69 balls remaining. After consecutive series defeats, Virat Kohli unbeaten 74 off 81 balls proved vital in the chase, joining Rohit Sharma (121* off 125) to reach their 19th century partnership in ODIs and help India turn things around.
