Indian batting legend Virat Kohli is expected to return to domestic cricket. This news coincides with the former captain of India playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Months after safety concerns forced the renowned venue off the cricketing calendar, the Karnataka government has granted it conditional clearance, reopening it for play.
Since the horrific stampede that occurred during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL win celebrations in June, which claimed 11 lives, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium has come under fire. Bengaluru lost a number of games, including Women’s World Cup matches, after a court investigation by the Justice John D’Cunha Commission declared the stadium to be essentially hazardous for major events.
However, the Karnataka Cabinet recently gave the stadium permission to host games once more in principle, provided that the commission’s proposed safety and crowd control measures be strictly followed. To bring cricket back to the venue, newly elected KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad met with key officials, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
KSCA is thinking about permitting 2,000–3,000 spectators.
Virat Kohli appearance at the Chinnaswamy in his native colours may be the immediate effect of the clearance. The KSCA intends to relocate Delhi’s Vijay Hazare Trophy matches to Bengaluru due to security and logistical issues surrounding Alur.
Delhi’s likely squad includes both Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, who are anticipated to be available for the competition’s opening three games.
The great cricketer may make a comeback to the stadium where he established himself in the IPL with RCB when Delhi plays Andhra and Gujarat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The KSCA is also thinking about opening a few stands to accommodate 2,000 to 3,000 fans in order to control interest in the match.
The BCCI has mandated that centrally contracted players participate in domestic competitions when international obligations allow, which is why Virat Kohli is available. Virat Kohli is anticipated to improve Delhi’s batting order after winning Player of the Series for India in their ODI series victory against South Africa. After missing out on recent ODI matches, Pant will be eager to get back into the action.
