India faced Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune for the 17th game of the ODI World Cup 2023. Having won the toss, Bangladesh decided to open the batting. India was victorious thanks to the ace hitter Virat Kohli, who played an outstanding 103-ball innings in just 97 pitches. With 51 balls remaining and a seven-wicket victory over the opposition, India clinched first place in the standings thanks to Kohli’s outstanding century.

When it came time for the game, Bangladesh chose to bat first after winning the toss. In their first innings against Indian bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj, opening batsmen Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das began cautiously. Only 10 runs were scored in the opening five over, and India even lost the chance to overturn Tanzid’s LBW ruling. In the sixth over, however, Litton sparked a comeback by profiting from a couple short deliveries from Siraj. The momentum was changed with Tanzid’s six off Bumrah and by many boundaries off Siraj.

In the ODI World Cup 2023 matchup against the hosts, Bangladesh rapidly jumped from 10/0 to 63/0 following the powerplay. Before Kuldeep Yadav ultimately broke the partnership, the openers kept on gradually scoring runs. Bangladesh found themselves in trouble at 137/4 after being 93/0. During this middle stage, India’s bowlers strengthened their hold on the match, forcing Bangladesh to depend on Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim to post a respectable score.
With little under seven overs left, Rahim was dismissed by Jadeja after taking a superb catch at backward point. Then, in the final five overs against India’s pace trio, Mahmudullah played some bold shots that assisted Bangladesh in reaching a decent total of 256.
Opening pair Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill put together a good partnership of 88 runs for the first wicket to give the Indian team a bright start in their chase. Rohit was out, but Gill reached a half-century before being bowled out by Mehidy Hasan.
