Virat Kohli becomes the first athlete to reach the 2,000-run mark in seven separate calendar years.

Without a doubt, one of the best hitters of our generation is Virat Kohli, the star Indian batsman. It is reasonable to argue that 35-year-old Virat Kohli is one of the most vital players on India’s roster after he has been a constant for the Indian side over the years, shattering record after record.

The great batsman’s strong innings in the opening Test match against South Africa saw him break yet another record. With 76 runs in 82 deliveries, Kohli made history by becoming the first batsman to reach 2000 runs in seven separate years of the calendar.

Previously, in 2012 (2186 runs), 2014 (2286 runs), 2016 (2595 runs), 2017 (2818 runs), 2018 (2735 runs), and 2019 (2455 runs), he had accomplished the feat. It is noteworthy that no other player has done so since the inception of international cricket.

Virat Kohli breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

After winning the first Test match against South Africa, Kohli continued his record-breaking run, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become India’s top run scorer against the South Africans. While Tendulkar scored 1724 runs in 38 outings against the Proteas, Kohli has already amassed 1750 runs in 29 matches against South Africa.

India failed to cross the finish line and claim victory despite Kohli’s exquisite innings. After giving up 408 runs in the first inning, India could only muster 131 in the second, allowing the Proteas to win by an inning and 32 runs.

With openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring zero and five runs, respectively, the visitors got off to a terrible start in the second inning. With 76 runs to his credit, Kohli is the leading run scorer. Shubman Gill was dismissed for just 26 runs.

Regarding the wickets, Nandre Burger claimed the most wickets with four, followed by Marco Jansen with three and Kagiso Rabada with two.
