IND vs ENG 2025: Virat Kohli becomes fastest to reach 16,000 runs in Asia

On February 12, Virat Kohli became the fastest batter in Asian subcontinental international cricket history to reach 16,000 runs. He reached the milestone on his way to defeating England by 52 runs in the third and last ODI of the current series. He reached the 16,000-run milestone with a single to deep third on the last delivery of the 12th over of India’s innings. Adil Rashid took his wicket, making him India’s second to lose.

Virat Kohli innings on Wednesday marked his 340th in Asia since he made his debut for his country in Colombo in 2008. As a result,

Kohli was the fourth hitter and the quickest to join the exclusive list, which also included Mahela Jayawardene (401), Kumar Sangakkara (360), and Sachin Tendulkar (353).

Batters with 16000 or more international runs in Asia
Player Innings Runs (Tests; ODIs; T20Is)
Sachin Tendulkar 475 21,741 (9,674; 12,067; 0)
Kumar Sangakkara 410 18,423 (9,355; 8,249; 819)
Mahela Jayawardene 439 17,386 (9,399; 7,342; 645)
Virat Kohli 340 16,025 (4,789; 8,508; 2,728)
India’s Gill Tonne propels it to 356

Regarding the current match, England is trying to reach 357 in order to salvage a victory. It was Shubman Gill’s seventh ODI century of the day. With 116 and 104 runs for the second and third wickets with Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, respectively, the top-order batsman continued to show his affection for Ahmedabad. A Rashid delivery that smashed into the stumps had Gill out for 112.

With resounding victories in Nagpur and Cuttack, India has established an insurmountable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The match in Ahmedabad is the final game the two sides will play before the eight-team Champions Trophy begins in Pakistan on February 19. A hybrid format will be used for the tournament, and the UAE has been selected as the neutral location after India declined to visit Pakistan due to the tense political relations between the two countries.
