''Most bizarre thing I have heard' - Virat Kohli answers to media calling Ravi Shastri. 'Yes man'

In 2014–16, Ravi Shastri, a former cricket player for India, served as the Indian Team Director. In 2017, he was named the Head Coach after that. After a rumored falling out with former coach Anil Kumble, it was thought that Virat Kohli was adamant about Shastri taking over as coach. When it came to the 2018 Australia tour, which was very important, Kohli was asked if he was a “yes man.”

Shastri’s first behaviour was similar to that of Virat Kohli when he was a player. The television presenter’s appearances also offered a glimpse into those bygone days. Naturally, the media was eager to get a glimpse of their relationship. Kohli answered the question immediately, saying it was the “most bizarre thing” he has ever heard.

“About saying ‘yes’ all the time, that is the most bizarre thing I have heard,” Kohli added. In the history of Indian cricket, I don’t believe anyone has rejected me more than him. To tell the truth, I can talk to him about anything and get an honest assessment; if something isn’t necessary, it shouldn’t be done. He’s changed my game more than anyone else in the past, according to quotes from Kohli.

The Shastri-Virat Kohli alliance changed the face of Test cricket in India.

Together, Shastri and Kohli led their team as coach and skipper from 2017 to 2021. That was when the star batsman for India was named the team’s full-time captain for all formats. Both the 2019 World Cup 2023 semi-final defeat and India’s group-stage departure in the 2021 T20 World Cup included the pair. They also participated in the Champions Trophy 2017 Final loss.

The team did, however, win 22 of the 39 Tests during the era, which transformed Test cricket in India. Having won 30 T20Is and 44 ODIs in 67 matches, the side dominated white-ball cricket. The most unforgettable moment of their visit was when, in 2021, they became the first subcontinental team to win a Test series on Australian soil. In red-ball cricket, India was ranked #1 from 2017 to 21.
