The announcements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s Test retirements before of the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle have created a great deal of drama in the Indian cricket community. The two have been pushed to revoke their retirements and return to the whites by former India cricketer Yograj Singh, who is renowned for his direct and honest views.
Yograj claims that the senior players’ withdrawal from red-ball cricket could lead to a number of issues, particularly in the run-up to a pivotal five-match Test series against England that starts on June 20. In addition to explaining why Virat and Rohit should resume playing Test cricket, Yograj also made fun of the BCCI by citing retired players as examples, including his son Yuvraj Singh, a former cricket player for India.
“To save Indian Test cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma must come out of retirement. Now is not the moment to focus on oneself; rather, it is about the country, the supporters, and the intense feelings that people have for the game. Virat has at least ten more years to play cricket. According to The Times of India, Yograj stated, “If Rohit comes to me, I will make sure he gets back in peak fitness.”
Players like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Yuvraj Singh were dropped in 2011 for no apparent reason. I reprimanded Yuvraj after he retired, telling him to resist pressure. He was and remains extremely fit. Instead of giving in to outside influences, cricket players should battle for their spot on the squad. The BCCI should behave as a father to its players, supporting and protecting them without letting politics or ego rule the decisions, he continued.
I instructed Yuvi to give Virat Kohli a call and inform him: Yograj Singh
In his testimony, the former India pacer also disclosed that he instructed Yuvraj to call and caution the two players to change their minds. He asserted that the two players would later regret their decision to leave Test cricket and that they might not have the opportunity to come back.
“I instructed Yuvi to give Virat a call and advise him to avoid making the same error that I did. In a few years, Rohit and Virat will undoubtedly look back and regret it. Because eventually the frustration will come out, but then what’s the point?” He came to a conclusion.
