Twitter Reactions: Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja put India in control after a little setback on Day 1 of the second Test

In the third session, Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja performed a fantastic job of maintaining their wickets and advancing India above the 200-run threshold.

On Thursday, July 20, at the Queen’s Oval Park in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the second and final Test of the two-match series between India and the West Indies began. The Rohit Sharma-led team entered the game with a confident demeanor after winning the opening game by a wide margin. In order to tie things up, the hosts also wanted to win this game.

West Indies chose to bowl first after winning the toss and the game got underway. Mukesh Kumar of India and Kirk McKenzie of the West Indies both participated in their first Test match as debutants for their respective teams. As soon as they stepped up to the plate, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal got the ball rolling and the scoreboard moving.

In 127 deliveries, the pair scored their individual half-centuries and put up yet another century-stand as India easily passed the three-figure barrier. As India’s scoreboard read 121/0 in 26 overs at lunch, the two batted the whole first session. Jaiswal appeared to be in fine form and maintained the energy from the first Test into the second, but ultimately was removed for 57(74).

Shubman Gill again failed to impress, as he was despatched for a 12-ball 10 in a cheap dismissal. After Jason Holder and Kemar Roach had struck out the first two hitters in the order, Jomel Warrican scored to remove Indian captain Rohit Sharma from the game. The West Indies bowlers, who claimed four significant wickets, controlled the second session.

Shannon Gabriel

took his maiden wicket by dismissing the vice-captain in the second session after the top-order batsmen were brought back to the pavilion. As India stood at 182/4 at Tea, Ajinkya Rahane, who was anticipated to deliver similar heroics to those he shown against Australia in the World Test Championship Final, fell short of expectations and conceded his wicket after hitting a 36-ball eight.

At game’s end, the pair was still unblemished thanks to their outstanding batting. Just 13 runs separate Virat Kohli, who is currently at 87*(161), from a spectacular century, and Jadeja, who is currently at 36*(84), who is working toward a half-century as India finished Day 1 at 288/4 in 84 overs.
