Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has volunteered to act as a mediator between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir following their violent altercation following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s victory over Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023 Match 43. After RCB’s 18-run victory, when both teams were exchanging pleasantries, Kohli and Gambhir, who have a history of icy relations, engaged in a heated exchange.
Several former cricketers have condemned the on-field conduct of the former India comrades, and the incident is currently a hot topic of discussion within the cricket community. Harbhajan Singh, who previously stated that the incident was inappropriate for cricket, has now offered to mediate between the two parties.
“After the IPL, I will ensure that Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir meet and embrace. The conflict will come to an end, said Harbhajan on his YouTube channel.
In the meantime, an eyewitness has disclosed the exact cause of the ugly altercation between the RCB batter and LSG coach. According to a report in The Economic Times, Gambhir was annoyed with Kohli during the 17th over of the second innings, when Kohli was sledging the LSG seamer Naveen-ul-Haq.

As they shook hands at the conclusion of the game, Kohli and Naveen once again engaged in an impassioned discussion. Following the incident, LSG opener Kyle Mayers questioned Kohli about his hostility towards the 23-year-old Afghan seamer during a conversation. Gambhir interrupted Mayers and Kohli’s conversation and took Mayers away, which added gasoline to the fire, and both Kohli and Gambhir engaged in an aggressive confrontation.
Kohli asked Gambhir what he had done incorrectly by conversing with Mayers. The LSG coach replied that if he (Kohli) mistreats his players, it is the same as mistreating Gambhir’s family. In response, Kohli said, “Then keep your family under control,” according to The Economic Times. The pair was fined 100 percent of their match charge, while Naveen-ul-Haq was fined 50 percent of his fee.
