"We have a lot deal of depth," Vikram Rathour said, seemingly unconcerned with India's shift

Vikram Rathour, who will serve as India’s batting coach until the end of the T20 World Cup 2024, has stated that the national squad has a wealth of talent and has seen many excellent players come through the system. He stated that there is no need to be concerned about the impending transitioning phase, emphasising the need for careful management by the team’s leadership.

“I won’t worry too much about the changeover. In Indian cricket, we have an abundance of depth. Many highly skilled and gifted players are passing through the system. Making ensuring the transition is carried out in a regulated manner is all that is required. It must happen gradually,” said Rathour, as ESPNcricinfo reported.

Rathour expressed optimism that India has a plethora of talented players on the rise who might become the team’s core for the next ten years in all formats. He named players in particular from the white-ball versions that he thought would be the team’s future cornerstones.

“By then, perhaps, guys like Dhruv Jurel, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Yashasvi Jaiswal would have established themselves and the transition will go smoothly. We have seasoned players like Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer to step up in ODIs as well,” said Rathour.

They will serve as the foundation for Indian batting in the upcoming years: Vikram Rathour

Rathour highlighted that, in his opinion, Gill and Jaiswal have the technical and artistic aptitude necessary to succeed in all three genres. In a few years, he added, these two men might emerge as the mainstays of Indian hitting.

“While there are a lot of talented players on the rise, Gill and Jaiswal have the tools to play all three formats for a very long time. In the upcoming years, they will serve as the foundation of Indian batting, said Rathour.

The team that just finished its tour of Zimbabwe was captained by VVS Laxman, who filled in for Rahul Dravid in an acting capacity. Gautam Gambhir, Dravid’s long-term replacement, will take over as captain of the team for the Sri Lankan tour. The makeup of his coaching staff is still up in the air.
