Vikram Rathour, a former batting coach for India, has flown to New Zealand for the September 9 one-off Test match against Afghanistan. Alongside Rahul Dravid, he played for the Indian squad. More recently, he was a member of the team that won the T20 World Cup in the West Indies. Rathour’s contract with the BCCI terminated after the tournament, and he made the decision not to reapply.
Rangana Herath, a former cricketer from Sri Lanka, has been named the spin-bowling coach for the entirety of New Zealand’s sub-continental tour, which consists of two Test matches against Sri Lanka and three Test matches against India. The former Pakistani cricket player Saqlain Mushtaq was initially offered the role, but he declined NZC’s offer since he accepted a job offer from PCB. Herath, meanwhile, has played five Test matches in India, so he is quite accustomed with the country’s conditions.
Vikram Rathour and Herath were both warmly welcomed by head coach Gary Stead, who also mentioned that they would provide.
