Gill hit 10 sixes and 7 fours on 60 balls to score 129 runs and put a lot of pressure on the Mumbai Indians, who were trying to reach a goal of 234. In Qualifier 2, the defending champions beat the five-time winners by 62 runs after the five-time champions were bowled out for 171 in 18.2 overs.

In Qualifier 1, CSK beat GT by 15 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
