Vaughan emphasised the significance of participating in the pink-ball warm-up match, stating that the England players will only gain from it.
Australia defeated England in the first Ashes Test in two days at Perth’s Optus Stadium. On Day 2, after chasing down a goal of 205 runs in just 28.2 overs, the hosts prevailed by eight wickets. Former captain Michael Vaughan advised Ben Stokes and company to make the most of their additional time before the second Test, which starts on December 4, even though the thrashing would hurt.
The legendary Gabba in Brisbane will host the pink-ball match for the second Test. Vaughan recommended that the Three Lions prepare for the match by playing a pink-ball warm-up game.
He questioned why the team would risk going into a pivotal day-night Test unprepared, saying, “It’s amateurish if England don’t go out and practise between now and then,” in an interview with Test Match Special.
“What’s the harm in using the pink ball to play cricket under lights for two days? The former cricket player who is now a broadcaster stated, “I can’t be so traditional to suggest that by playing cricket they might get a little bit better.”
Australia has won 13 of their 14 pink-ball Test matches, which is an incredible record. Three wins over England are part of this. A warm-up pink-ball match might provide players with an excellent opportunity to get ready for the difficulties they might encounter at The Gabba, according to Vaughan.
“I would say that you have a two-day, pink-ball game. “You play those two days, grab it, take it, and give yourself the best chance,” Vaughan continued.
In just 67.3 overs, England’s renowned batting failed miserably in Perth, being bowled out twice. Given that bowlers typically control the action in pink-ball matches, the challenge is anticipated to get more difficult in the second Test.
Before Brisbane, England’s only encounter is against a Prime Minister’s XI on November 29, and even then, the Test team won’t be represented. There won’t be any competitive pink-ball practice for Stokes’ main group because the England Lions development team will be playing instead.
