During the CEAT Awards on Tuesday, October 7, Indian spinner Varun Chakaravarthy disclosed that Arshdeep Singh was the driving force behind the spontaneous celebration.
India did something different after defeating Pakistan in an exciting final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 28. India played amazing cricket throughout the 2025 Asia Cup. Following their refusal to accept the trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) president Mohsin Naqvi, the Men in Blue celebrated the victory without the trophy or winning medals. India asked to have another official present the trophy to them, but their request was denied.
The Indian players did not leave the pitch while the officials did. They headed for the podium, where skipper Suryakumar Yadav pretended to lift a trophy. He even replicated the well-known celebration that Rohit Sharma had during the 2024 T20 World Cup victory.
Arshdeep genuinely came up with the idea. We all know how things ended, but we were waiting for the prize,” Varun remarked.
We all stood waiting, and I was hoping the cup would arrive. He laughed as he added, “But the only cup next to me was a coffee cup.”
It felt odd to celebrate without the trophy, according to Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson, who was also in attendance. The players’ outstanding camaraderie, however, more than made up for the trophy’s absence.
Celebrating without the trophy seemed a little odd. However, we have a really good atmosphere in our changing room. We celebrate as though everything is ours, even if we don’t. That’s precisely what we did,” the batter-wicketkeeper remarked.
A number of players proceeded to make fun of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) authorities for posting images of the trophy emoji rather than the real silverware. Even though they were not given what was legitimately theirs, India is still a record-tying nine-time Asia Cup champion.
