Regarding his removal from India’s ODI squad for the forthcoming series against Australia, Indian mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy has spoken out. Chakravarthy took nine wickets at an economy rate of just 4.53 in three games during India’s Champions Trophy 2025 run, which ended in victory.
He mentioned that selectors might have a different perspective on his influence in relation to Australian circumstances.
“Brother, I want to be on every team, but the selectors have to consider their own opinions. Perhaps the pitches there (in Australia) present less opportunities. I was called in to replace Yashasvi Jaiswal, as you can see in the Champions Trophy as well. Thus, it is contingent upon the circumstances. “I can sense anything, but what the pitches require is something else entirely,” Varun Chakravarthy said, as reported by India Today.
Additionally, Varun Chakravarthy discussed his discussions with head coach Gautam Gambhir regarding his ability to bowl longer stretches and improve his batting abilities by participating in domestic cricket.
“In essence, the discussions focused on bowling longer periods. since you can only bowl two overs in a row in T20 cricket. In the Champions Trophy, I was able to demonstrate my ability to bowl five to six overs consecutively, which is a requirement in ODIs. He wants me to improve my hitting and bat a bit higher up the order in the domestic circuit, but that’s about it,” he continued.
When India travels to Australia, they will play three ODIs and five T20Is. For the series’ 20-over leg, Varun Chakravarthy has been chosen.
In the United Arab Emirates, he recently played a crucial role in India’s victory at the Asia Cup 2025.
