The second ODI of the three-match series between India and England will take place on Sunday, February 9, at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Varun Chakravarthy makes his debut in the 50-over format following an outstanding performance in the T20I series, where he finished with 14 wickets from five games. Prior to the second ODI, Ravindra Jadeja awarded him his first cap.
Chakravarthy, who is 33 years and 164 days old, became the second-oldest player to participate in an ODI for India. Having made his debut at the age of 36 years and 138 days, Farookh Engineer currently holds the record. In addition, Engineer made his debut against England.
Notably, Varun Chakravarthy has an impressive record in cricket in List A.
In 23 games, he has taken 59 wickets at an average of 14.13. After undergoing sports hernia surgery in October, Kuldeep Yadav returned for the first ODI, and the Tamil Nadu spinner took his spot. He was added to the ODI team at the final minute. India still has three days to reveal their final Champions Trophy team. Even though the mystery spinner isn’t in the starting lineup, he might be included if he plays well against England.
Virat Kohli returns
Virat Kohli’s knee issue kept him out of the opening ODI. The former India captain was replaced by Shreyas Iyer in the starting lineup. The Mumbai batsman produced a resounding victory with a brilliant half-century.
Yashasvi Jaiswal moved aside to make room for Kohli, but Shreyas was able to maintain his position. Lately, the Delhi hitter has not been among the runs. Prior to the Champions Trophy, he would like to get some runs under his belt.
England, meanwhile, made three changes to their team, replacing Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, and Jofra Archer with Jamie Overton, Gus Atkinson, and Mark Wood. To salvage the series, the Three Lions must win the second ODI.
