In the Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Bangladesh, which was played on Wednesday, September 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Shamim Hossain seemed helpless against Varun Chakaravarthy.
When Shamim came out to bat, Bangladesh was 65/3 after 9.4 overs, chasing a score of 169 in the pivotal Super Four match. In order to go closer to the target, Bangladesh would have preferred it if he and Saif Hassan, two young batters, had formed a relationship.
Varun Chakaravarthy, however, bowled the southpaw with a flat delivery from around the wicket, preventing Shamim from surviving even a single ball.
In an attempt to strike the ball through the off-side, Shamim afforded himself some space. But the amount of the delivery was less than he had anticipated. The Bangladeshi batter left for a three-ball duck when the ball hit the leg-stump to the ground.

In the end, Bangladesh was out for 127 in 19.3 overs. India struggled with the “Ring of Fire” in the stadium, giving up five catches. Saif Hassan, who received four reprieves, fought alone and used three fours and five sixes to score 69 off 51 balls. India’s best bowler was Kuldeep Yadav, who finished with figures of 3/18 in four overs. Jasprit Bumrah and Chakaravarthy each contributed two wickets.
Abhishek Sharma struck an incredible half-century off just 25 balls earlier in the game. After just 37 balls, he was run out for 75. Abhishek’s lightning-fast knock earned him Player of the Match. India was able to secure their spot in the final on Sunday with this victory. The victor of the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh on Thursday will join them.
