The 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is renowned for his explosive batting, smashed a six off the first ball of his IPL debut against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He made his debut in the world of cricket by hitting three enormous sixes and two boundaries in a 20-ball thirty-four against LSG. He also maintained his six-hitting prowess against RCB. This time, the teenage cricket player targeted Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a seasoned bowler, and hit two sixes before being bowled by him.
Following the Rajasthan Royals’ match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 Indian Premier League, Virender Sehwag, a former cricket player for India and one of the game’s most dangerous batsmen, gave the young Vaibhav Suryavanshi some unusual advise. Unexpectedly, RR lost a match by 11 runs, even though they still had the 18th over to spare. Fortunately for RCB, their first win came at their home field, Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Speaking with Cricbuzz, Sehwag counselled the young player to maintain his composure and focus on the game. He cited a number of situations in which the cricket players, having only participated in one or two games, lost control of the game. “You will stay grounded if you go out knowing that you will receive praise for your efforts and criticism for your shortcomings. According to Sehwag, “I have witnessed a lot of players who come, gain notoriety from one or two games, and then do nothing because they believe they have become a star player.”
The former player said that, like Virat Kohli, Vaibhav Suryavanshi ought to aim to play in the IPL for the next 20 years.
Given his current age, he has the potential to establish numerous records in the years to come if he can maintain his health and fitness. In his first two games, Suryavanshi has demonstrated a great deal of batting promise; now, everything will rely on how he continues.
“Suryavanshi should strive to play in the IPL for 20 years. Take a look at Virat Kohli, who began playing at the age of 19 and has now participated in all 18 seasons. He ought to be attempting to imitate it. But perhaps we won’t see him next year if he is content with this IPL, believing that he is now a crorepati, made a fantastic debut, and struck a six off the first ball,” Sehwag continued.
