Uttarakhand Premier League 2024, Match 7 Review: USN Indians clinch two in two after defeating Haridwar Spring Elmas in last-ball thriller

Dehradun, September 18, 2024: On Wednesday night at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, the USN Indians won two games in a row after defeating the Haridwar Spring Elmas by a thrilling one-run margin (using DLS method).

As a result, the DLS approach was used to update the objective for Haridwar Spring Elmas. The Powerplay was limited to the first three overs, and they were given a revised goal of 130 runs in 66 balls.

After only one victory in their previous three games, the Haridwar Spring Elmas were playing in their fourth and final league stage encounter. A victory in this match was imperative for them to advance to the knockout stage.

Haridwar Spring Elmas lost three wickets in short succession during the Powerplay, facing an intimidating chase and pressure to score early from the outset. Saurabh Rawat (16 off 10) and Shashwat Dangwal (20 off 10) tried to form an important partnership, but Prashant Chauhan bowled both of them in the same over, breaking their resistance.

Rain again affected Wednesday’s doubleheader, delaying play at the outset and during the USN Indians’ innings

Kunalveer Singh started to push hard as the needed run rate rose above 15, striking a couple of boundaries and providing Haridwar Spring Elmas with some optimism. But in the ninth over, his heroic 23 off eight balls was dismissed.

In the penultimate over, Girish Rauturi hit Agrim Tiwari for four sixes, changing the course of the match dramatically and moving his team closer to victory. The USN Indians secured a thrilling victory by restricting them to 128/7, despite his unbeaten 35 off 19 balls.

The match was earlier cut to 16 overs per side, with the Powerplay covering overs 1 through 5, due to light evening drizzle. Haridwar Spring Elmas sent the USN Indians into bat, and they hit a couple of boundaries in the first few overs of their innings. But by the time the fourth over was finished, they had dropped two wickets in as many balls.

Yuvraj Chaudhary, the opener, continued to bat with an aggressive attitude despite the early failures, hitting at a strike rate above 200. Before play was momentarily stopped by weather, the USN Indians reached 64/2 in six overs. The game was reduced to 11 overs per side by the weather delay and Aryan Sharma’s fall shortly after the restart.

Yuvraj Chaudhary persisted in striking with aggression, keeping his explosive form. He batted until the very finish, driving his side to a formidable 125/6 with a scorching 74* from 33 balls that included five fours and six sixes.
