‘It is each series at a time’- Usman Khawaja reflects on his retirement plans

Usman Khawaja, a veteran hitter for Australia, has served Australian cricket with loyalty for a number of years. Khawaja recently spoke about his plans for his global career in an interview. He made it clear that he will continue to play cricket as long as he believes he can contribute.

He acknowledged that he is taking matters one series at a time and that he consults with the coach and selectors frequently about his position and future in the setup.

“I’m just tackling it one series at a time.” We are winning games and have been the top team in the world for around three years, so I still feel like I am making a difference. We have a really strong bowling, batting, and Alex Carey behind the stumps team, so I’m not planning too far ahead; we’ll take each series as it comes. I understand, however, that nothing lasts forever and that there will come a day when I must quit the game. For SEN Radio, Khawaja said.

Khawaja also disclosed that he believes he still has more to offer Australian cricket and that this is not the time to put up his boots.

“I am continually in contact with George Bailey and the coach, and my goal is to play and contribute to the success of the Australian cricket team. I’ll pull the pin whenever it’s appropriate or whenever I feel like it’s time to look at the next objective, Khawaja stated.

Though I am quite receptive to that, I do not currently feel that it is. However, I am currently just enjoying playing cricket and representing Australia,” he said.

Khawaja will play in a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka between January 29 and February 10 as a member of the Australian team. The two games are expected to take place in Galle.
