Following India’s triumphant 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, an intriguing tale regarding the team’s return trip from Barbados to New Delhi has surfaced. In addition to carrying the victorious Indian cricket team, the 16-hour flight—which was delayed by a hurricane—became one of the most tracked in aviation history. It also transported journalists who were left stranded on the island.
Millions cricket fans were thrilled as India defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024 final, ending Men in Blue’s ICC title drought. However, a hurricane in Barbados delayed the team’s return home.
The flight’s recently disclosed details present a clear picture of the happy but worn-out crew. An NDTV report said that no player was able to get more than six hours of sleep while they were on board.
“I don’t think anyone slept for longer than six hours on this journey from Barbados to Delhi. That was going to be the utmost. Nobody remained silent at any point. There was mingling among all. According to Hindustan Times, the producer stated, “Players came to meet the members of the press and few others.”
According to the producer on the flight, former head coach Rahul Dravid, who was in dire need of rest, was seen dozing off in the economy section.
“Star Sports engineers were also accommodated and included aboard the flight because theirs was cancelled. However, a lot of conversation took place. Rohit Sharma made multiple appearances. Rahul Dravid, who wanted to sleep, I think briefly went up to the economy section to see if there was a 4-seater. He spent some time sleeping there after arriving from the business class,” he continued.

With a mix of journalists, cricket players, and even Star Sports engineers who had been accommodated owing to their cancelled flight, the flight was anything but typical. There was continual conversation and movement around the cabin, creating a lively atmosphere.
Reportedly spotted moving about the aircraft several times was Captain Rohit Sharma, who is well-known for his cheerful disposition. He was heard reprimanding someone in a light-hearted manner.
“I seem to recall that while I was asleep, I heard Rohit reprimanding someone. He was standing there when I looked. But Rohit was belittling in a light-hearted manner. Then Hardik and Rishabh arrived, and they were all chatting with the press. Thus, it was evident that there was a lot of conversation,” he said.
