In Ahmedabad, it was the same thing versus the Gujarat Titans. Fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat discussed this at the press conference held after the game. He believes that his team hasn’t had enough “complete performances” this season, and that the points table reflects this.
In the 2025 Indian Premier League, Sunrisers Hyderabad is currently in danger of being eliminated since they need to win all of their remaining games and a few more to advance to the playoffs. This time around, the team that advanced to the final the previous season and mesmerised everyone with their daring, prolific batting has fallen short of those high standards, showing inconsistent performance with the bat and the ball.
As you saw in Chennai, we’ve had a couple of excellent games. “Some fantastic catches were made there,” Unadkat began. But on this particular day, nothing seemed to be fitting together. We may not be fielding well when we are bowling well, and we may not be bowling well when we are actually fielding well or making those catches.
“We got off to a strong start in the batting innings, but we lost the narrative halfway through. We lost out on the fielding portion today, which cost us the game. To win games against strong teams, like the Gujarat Titans, you need to play well in all three areas.
In the post-match interview, captain Pat Cummins also echoed Unadkat’s views. “They likely scored an additional 20–30 runs since our powerplay with the ball wasn’t very good. I’m guilty there, so maybe hold on to one or two catches as well. Cummins remarked, “Maybe chasing 200 on this wicket looks a little more realistic.”
Bowling is disappointing.
Additionally, Unadkat emphasised that his team’s bowling has been subpar overall this season, which has been concerning.
“Based on my IPL playing experience, a club needs three to four bowlers who must contribute in every game if they want to win. We don’t have it this year.
“The other three guys are most likely not bowling well together when two of them are. Similar to batting partnerships, bowling partnerships are affected when one player bowls poorly from both ends, which puts undue pressure on the other player and alters the plans.
“We must accept responsibility since that hasn’t really clicked for us. Being the best is necessary to win games, and we haven’t been the greatest. Unadkat continued, “I can’t say that we lack anything in terms of planning, training, or practice—it’s just the execution on the pitch.”
