With his recovery from dengue, Umran Malik is "fully focused" on the Duleep Trophy

Young Indian pacer Umran Malik, who recently recovered from dengue, has stated that he is excited to perform well in the next Duleep Trophy 2024. Four teams—Teams A, B, C, and D—will compete in the historic red-ball competition known as the Duleep Trophy, which is scheduled to kick off on September 5 in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, and M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Team C, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, has Malik listed as a member. Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, and India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav are a few other well-known members of the squad. The speedster, 24, talked candidly about how he got ready for the national competition.

“I feel better, and right now at NCA, I’m totally focused on getting ready for the Duleep trophy. India Today cited Umran Malik as stating, “I hope I will be doing well this season for my team.”

Despite just playing in three games, Malik earned his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2021. Nonetheless, his effortless ability to reach speeds above 150 kph turned attention. He participated in 14 games and took home an amazing 22 wickets at 20.18 in the lucrative league’s 2022 season. He was brought up quickly in the Indian T20I team during the 2022 Ireland trip, and he played his first ODI against New Zealand later that year.

At an average of 30.69 in 10 ODIs, he has claimed 13 wickets, while at 22.09 in eight T20Is, he has claimed 11 wickets. But since his performances began to decline sharply, he made his final outing abroad in July 2023. During the previous domestic season, the right-arm bowler for Jammu & Kashmir in the Ranji Trophy 2023–24 only managed to pick four wickets at an average of 38.50 from five matches.

He did not have much of an effect in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament of the previous year, taking six wickets from seven matches at an economy of 8.26 and an average of 35.83. In the one game he played for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Malik was appalling; in eight overs, he let up 68 runs without taking a wicket.

He only appeared in one game during the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024), and in that one over, he gave up 15 runs. The young player’s bounce and velocity could be useful for India since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is scheduled to take place in Australia later this year. To qualify for the national setup, he will need to summon some reliable performances in the domestic circuit.
