Umar Gul is negotiating a position as a fast bowling coach with the BCB.

Umar Gul, a former fast bowler for Pakistan, is in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to become the pace bowling coach of the national side. On Monday (April 7), the right-arm fast bowler gave Cricbuzz confirmation of the development.

In order to replace Andre Adams, who has a two-year contract that expires in February 2026, BCB is now looking for a new fast bowling coach.

Due to team discontent with his performance, a senior board official indicated that the New Zealander, who would be leading the pacers in the forthcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe, is unlikely to stay in his position until the end of his contract. The board has begun searching for a replacement as a result of this.

“We are in talks, but nothing is confirmed yet,” Umar Gul said Monday to Cricbuzz.

“The confirmation depends on mutual understanding and terms and conditions, and that is dependent on the board,” he stated.

Umar Gul has a strong coaching background and retired from international cricket in 2020. Between 2003 and 2016, the right-arm bowler played for Pakistan in 60 T20Is, 130 ODIs, and 47 Test matches. Prior to rejoining Pakistan as their fast-bowling coach, he coached Afghanistan’s national team and the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after retiring.

Along with Umar Gul, a number of other names have surfaced as potential Adams successors, including former Australian pacer Shaun Tait and former Bangladeshi pace bowling instructors Ottis Gibson and Allan Donald.

Phil Simmons’ coaching contract with BCB was recently renewed to the 2027 ICC World Cup.

Furthermore, Mohammad Salahuddin, the senior assistant coach, has been reappointed by BCB.

“We have reached a verbal understanding with Salahuddin bhai. The board meeting may be the time to finish the formalities. According to a BCB official, the announcement was originally scheduled at that time but was postponed for unanticipated reasons.

A highly regarded coach in Bangladeshi cricket, Salahuddin began his career with the national side as a senior assistant coach before moving on to become the batting coach.

He is anticipated to be crucial to Bangladesh’s readiness for future overseas assignments.
