UAE to host Pakistan, Afghanistan for T20I tri-series before Asia Cup 2025

The Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host a seven-match Twenty20 International tri-series between Pakistan and Afghanistan starting on August 29. The final is set for September 7, and all games will be nighttime affairs that begin at 7:00 PM local time.

The three teams will use this tri-series as crucial training for the Asia Cup 2025, which starts two days after the series ends. Pakistan will play Afghanistan in the first game.

Three Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals are part of Pakistan’s current limited-overs tour of the West Indies. They have a 1-0 lead in the T20I series. After a poor showing in a recent away series against Bangladesh, where they lost the T20I series 1-2, the team will try to get back to their previous level of play.

Conversely, Afghanistan hasn’t participated in any international games since the Champions Trophy 2025, when they were last seen in action. The tri-series offers the team a great chance to get back on track before playing Hong Kong to start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign.

After defeating Bangladesh 2-1 in a home Twenty20 International series earlier in May, the UAE enters the tri-series with increased confidence. The club has gained a lot of momentum from the victory in front of home fans.

Two days after the tri-series final, on September 9, the Asia Cup 2025 will get underway. Eight countries will compete in the T20 format for the first time in the tournament’s history. This is a significant prelude to the 2026 T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka will host.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong make up group B, while India, Pakistan, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates make up group A. Each group’s top two teams will go to the Super 4s, where the top two teams will compete in the final on September 28.
