KL Rahul On Day 3 of the third Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Rahul recorded his second at Lord’s and his fourth Test century in England with remarkable poise and patience. Rishabh Pant’s disastrous run out was the final event before lunch, so the Karnataka batter had to wait on 98. But Rahul’s focus would not be disrupted by the forty-odd minutes of waiting.
Rahul pushed forward, hit a nice length delivery from Jofra Archer wide of mid-off off the fourth ball in the 67th over of India’s innings, and scrambled through for a fast single to get his century. After 176 deliveries, he reached the enchanted three-figure milestone.
KL Rahul has more hundreds as a visiting opener in England than anyone else since 2000 (five), only surpassed by Graeme Smith.
The Indian opener took off his helmet, lifted both of his arms, and revelled in the cheers from his teammates and the audience. During his knock, which exuded poise and refinement, he hit thirteen boundaries.
India would have preferred it if Rahul had persisted and turned his century into a more significant knock. But in the next over, Shoaib Bashir put an end to his time at the crease. Rahul was tricked into hitting a sloppy push over the cover area, but the off-spinner had little turn and Harry Brook got the edge at first slip. With India still several runs behind England’s first-inning total, the 33-year-old batsman was upset but knew he had to continue. The fans and his teammates cheered him on as he grudgingly left the pitch.
Rahul’s performance will be remembered for a very long time because to the level of control he had when batting against the England bowlers, even though he was dismissed immediately after hitting the milestone.
The cricket community responded to his remark on social media as follows:
It’s like he was made to bat in England. Well played @klrahul 👏🏻 Wish he’d got a lot more. #ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/fOmqFdKlf3

Finally this very likeable & class cricketer comes of age. Carries his form from one Test to the other. 2 hundreds now in 3 Tests! Pity about the immediate dismissal after. But overall so far this series🙇🙇🙇 KL! #KLRahul
