On Friday, June 6, at the County Ground in Northampton, KL Rahul made an impression with a brilliant century on Day 1 of the second unofficial Test match between the England Lions and India A. The fact that the knock came under difficult circumstances and at the top of the order made it much more memorable.
He had only managed to score one run off ten deliveries at one stage. On his eleventh ball, he hit his first boundary. After Yashasvi Jaiswal left, there was a delay because of the rain. After the restart, Rahul appeared relaxed and carried on working even after Abhimanyu Easwaran was fired. At lunch, he was undefeated at 26 off 58.
After 102 deliveries, Rahul reached his half-century on the last ball of the 38th over. Rahul’s bat had produced the game’s lone six at tea. Once he reached his fiftieth, he increased the tempo. Ahead of the third session, he was seven steps away from a historic tonne.
Soon after play restarted, Rahul century was mentioned. He singled off a no-ball to raise his tonne. But after chasing a full ball outside the off stump and getting a thick outside edge that was caught at second slip, he fell for 116. He had hit a smashing boundary before this on the subsequent delivery.
