[WATCH] Zimbabwe Tri-Series 2025: Madhevere’s bizarre hit-wicket stuns viewers

Wessly Madhevere’s innings in the Zimbabwe Tri-Series opener against South Africa ended in an odd way when he tried to flick the ball off his pads and stepped onto the stumps. It appeared as though his rear foot sank too deeply into the crease before stepping upon the stumps due to his loss of balance during the hit.

Madhevere had to leave the pitch after only managing one run off nine deliveries in his 77th Twenty20 International.

He was never able to get going and adjust to the way the ball behaved off the pitch, especially when it came to Lungi Ngidi, who ultimately claimed a freak dismissal. As he was leaving, the 24-year-old all-rounder was in disbelief about what had happened. Ngidi, on the other hand, was beaming because he had something to show for his clean innings debut.

In relation to the game, Zimbabwe lost badly, losing by five wickets and twenty-five deliveries. They only managed 141/6 in their allocated quota of 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Sikandar Raza, the captain, scored the most runs with an undefeated 54 off 38 balls. Three fours and two sixes were hit throughout the seasoned all-rounder’s innings. Ngidi finished with economical figures of 1/15 in four overs for the South Africans.

The Proteas had a rough beginning. Within the powerplay, they had lost three wickets. Dewald Brevis and international debutant Rubin Hermann worked incredibly well together to put together a 72-run partnership off just 37 deliveries. In the end, the unbeaten batsmen were George Linde (3*) and Corbin Bosch (23* off 15). Brevis won Player of the Match for his powerful knock, even though Linde only managed 3/10 in the first innings.
