Chris Read has been named head coach of the Trent Rockets. Jon Lewis, who left the team at the end of the 2025 season after three years as head coach, will be replaced by Read. Before, Read served as Lewis’ team’s assistant coach.
In his 19 years of playing for Nottinghamshire, Read has made 700 appearances in a variety of formats. For ten seasons, he has also been the captain. Read represented England in 36 ODIs and 15 Test matches.
The former batsman-wicketkeeper expressed his joy at being named head coach of a team whose home has held special meaning for him. In front of a crowded Trent Bridge, he also conveyed his delight about continuing his journey with the team.
“I am incredibly happy to be taking on a head coaching position at the stadium where I had so many incredibly memorable moments. Over the past three summers, I’ve truly loved honing my coaching abilities with the Rockets, and I’m thrilled about the chance to carry on that journey. According to ESPNcricinfo, Read said, “I have witnessed the power of a sold-out Trent Bridge crowd first-hand over the years, and I know how much their support can change the course of games.”
Mick Newell, the general manager of the Rockets and Read’s former Nottinghamshire coach, also expected Read to be a successful head coach. He emphasized how Read’s previous coaching background will benefit him as the team’s leader in the coming season.
“We’re thrilled to have Chris back at Trent Bridge to lead the Trent Rockets; it’s a true full circle moment.
After years of exceptional service as a player, he has made a name for himself here as a true club legend. He is now proving to be a superb coach and leader as well. We’re eager to see him in his new position because of his outstanding start to his coaching career at Lancashire and his prior Rockets experience,” Newell continued.
The Trent Rockets have never advanced to the Women’s Hundred final. They have bragged about having a strong squad that includes players like Alana King, Ashleigh Gardner, and Nat Sciver-Brunt. In 2022, when the Rockets lost the Eliminator, they had their best finish.
