Trent Boult's final Twenty20 World Cup matchup is against PNG.

The great Trent Boult has declared that he will not be playing in any more T20 World Cups after Monday’s match between New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. The West Indies and Afghanistan are the two sides that have advanced from Group C, meaning the Blackcaps are out of the 2024 T20 World Cup.

At the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on Saturday, New Zealand triumphed over Uganda by a commanding nine wickets. Boult, who finished with amazing figures of 2/7 in four overs, set the tone for the Kiwis. After the African country was dismissed for forty runs, New Zealand easily won the sixth over, needing just nine wickets to secure victory.

Since the Trent Boult was released from his central contract over two years ago, there have been very few in New Zealand.

After the game, Trent Boult informed the reporters, “On behalf of myself, this will be my last T20 World Cup.” Boult will play in his 18th and last Twenty20 World Cup match on Monday at Brian Lara Stadium. He will be looking to improve to his already remarkable 32 wicket total.

The next T20 World Cup is in 2026, and the ODI World Cup is in 2027, so it’s also possible that this matchup with Papua New Guinea will be Boult’s last World Cup appearance. In the powerplay against Uganda, Boult and his regular seam-bowling partner Tim Southee bowled excellently, finishing with combined figures of 5/11 in eight overs. The Rotorua native stated that he was enjoying rolling back the years with his “very good friend” as they unleashed a mammoth swing on the Ugandan batters on Saturday.

“I have many happy recollections of our collaboration. Together, we bowled a tonne of overs. I’m extremely familiar with the partnership, and he’s undoubtedly a great friend both on and off the pitch. Rewinding the clock a little bit to witness some top-tier swing bowling was enjoyable. A few wonderful memories, and maybe a few more to come,” he remarked.
