Trent Boult's 100th ODI, Liam Livingstone's greatest score, and other statistics from the second ODI between England and New Zealand

Trent Boult a seamer, shocked England’s top order early on by taking three quick wickets in his 100th one-day international encounter.

England defeated New Zealand easily by a margin of 79 runs in the 34-overs per side match at The Rose Bowl in Southampton because to Liam Livingstone career-high performance of 95* and Sam Curran’s 42 off 35 further down the order. With two games remaining, the series is now tied 1-1 thanks to Daryl Mitchell’s 57 but he was unable to lead his team to victory.

Tom Latham, the captain, recalled that after winning the toss and choosing to field first in the cloudy conditions. Ben Stokes scored just one run, while Bairstow and Joe Root were both out for six and zero runs, respectively, all victims of Boult. Harry Brook was removed by Matt Henry for two as England fell behind at 28/4.

Jos Buttler, the captain, scored 30 runs, and Moeen Ali added 33 runs, but Livingstone and Curran were the stars of the match at that point. Together, they scored 112 runs for the seventh wicket, helping their team reach the difficult total of 226/7 in just 34 overs. In 78 deliveries, Livingstone hit nine fours and a six to reach his greatest score in the format.

In response, Devon Conway, the game’s centurion, only made 14 while Finn Allen was out for a duck. Till he exhausted himself, Will Young appeared good for his 33 off 39. Latham and Glenn Phillips, who each scored 19 and two runs, were ineffective. The BlackCaps were dismissed for 147 in 26.5 overs thanks to three scalps each from pacemen David Willey and Reece Topley. Livingstone won Player of the Match for his outstanding strike.

Here are some significant figures and statistics from the second One-Day International between England and New Zealand:

Liam Livingstone’s ODI score of 95* was his highest ever. His prior high score of 66* came in a 2022 matchup with the Netherlands.

Trent Boult took the field for the 100th time in a one-day international game. He became the 25th player from New Zealand to accomplish the milestone.

Joe Root has now scored 104 runs in seven innings at a dismal average of 14.85, the lowest total in ODIs since 2022, and the best score of 86.

3 – Livingstone finished at number seven in the 50-over format with the third-highest score for England, a 95*. The top scorer is Joe Buttler, who scored 121 against Sri Lanka in 2014. Moeen Ali, who scored 102 against the West Indies in 2017, is in second place.

With three hundreds and one half-century, Daryl Mitchell has now scored 472 runs in his previous six innings, averaging 94.40.

Against England, New Zealand scored 147, which was their third-lowest total ever. Their two previous worst marks, 134 and 135, were earned in 1984 in Christchurch and Wellington, respectively.

Moeen Ali has now taken 100 wickets in one-day internationals, breaking the previous record of 99. After Graeme Swann (104) and Adil Rashid (184), he was the third English spinner to accomplish the mark.

After 100 ODI matches, Boult has taken the second-most wickets (190). With 196 scalps, Mitchell Starc tops the list.

3 – In his last four ODI games, Finn Allen has now been removed for a duck three times.

The second-highest seventh-wicket partnership for England against New Zealand was 112, which Livingstone and Sam Curran put together. For their 177-run partnership in Birmingham in 2015, Buttler and Adil Rashid are in the lead.

95* – In Southampton’s ODIs, hard-hitter Livingstone also recorded the highest score of 95* while playing at position seven. Against England in 2015, Matthew Wade had a knock of 71*, which he surpassed.
