Twitter Reactions: In the first T20I, Travis Head switches into SRH mode and beats Scotland

As the hitters strolled back, scoring 80 off 25 at a 320 strike rate, Mark Watt turned off the Travis Head Show. Australia’s first Twenty20 international match of the tour began on September 4 at the Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh against Scotland.

After winning the toss, the visitors chose to bowl first. Having scored 28 runs off 16 balls, George Munsey had Scotland at 52 for 2 in 5.4 overs. Richie Berrington and Matthew Cross controlled the run rate with their individual 23 off 20 and 27 off 21 performances, while Brandon McMullen chipped in with 19 off 15.

No other hitter could throw in down the order save Jack Jarvis and Mark Watt. The pair scored 16 off 13 and 10 off 8, in that order. Xavier Bartlett and Adam Zampa each claimed two wickets, while Sean Abbott claimed three for Australia. At the conclusion of twenty overs, the hosts amassed a respectable 154 for 9.

The visitors lost Jake Fraser-McGurk on the third delivery of the opening over while chasing a manageable target. Conversely, Travis Head caused chaos by hitting three boundaries off Brad Wheal in the next over. In the fourth over, he forced Charlie Cassell to give up 14 runs in the first three balls he faced after fetching 20 runs off McMullen’s over.

Travis Head lets off fireworks

When Wheal was sent in to end the powerplay, Head scored 26 runs and gave everyone a flashback to his exploits with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. After six overs, Australia had scored 113, the best powerplay total in Twenty20 Internationals.
